Native to India and Sri Lanka, fragrant lemongrass (Cymbopogon citratus) grows in 2- to 4-foot-high clumps, spreading to 3 feet. A perennial only in U.S. Department of Agriculture plant hardiness zones 9 and 10, it is cultivated elsewhere as an annual.
